Importance of happy shop attendants
In every aspect of shopping I prefer to shop within the Nambucca Valley whenever I can. There are, however two deterrents for me; that the item is either not available or the range of brands/models too limited which means I must shop out of the area or on-line. This, I appreciate, is always a difficult one to resolve and most places do there best to carry the appropriate stock. But I believe a more significant deterrent can be the attitude and general demeanor of some owners or staff. Whilst this may not be a large problem it is one that I have both experienced and heard expressed by others time and time again. "No. I won't shop there. The owner/sales person is too rude/unhelpful/grumpy/ offers poor service" and the list of reasons goes on. Ironically, some complaints may no longer even be relevant as the business has changed hands or the employee has gone...but the person has never gone back to find this out! Without doubt customers and clients can themselves be difficult to deal with, and to respond with calm politeness and diplomacy is not always so easy. But for a customer to enter a shop and be greeted or treated with disinterest by a disgruntled person is not encouraging and is sure to result in a loss of business. So please local businesses...a little smile along with a pleasant and willing demeanor will do much to secure ongoing and future business from your Nambucca Valley customers. It's one of the easiest issues to address in business and is a low cost and effective way of marketing. |
