Mettaphor fuse live luscious vocals, sublime saxophones & acoustic guitar over loopz n beatz offering the fresh mighty sound of a class act taking on the universal language of groove.
Nu jazz is a tag if you need one however definitions of jazz can be controversial & Mettaphor prefer to make music rather than define it. What they do is exude sensually produced sounds of lounge chill vibes to a sax driven funk bop.
Angelika Heinrich & Kaeleen Hunter are Mettaphor & draw inspiration from the compelling vision of where jazz has been, is now & heading. The art of Mettaphor is in their songwriting, musicianship, synergy & creative embrace of the technology of now.
Their is no room for fear in this outfit & using the latest tricks & gadgets they effectively create a wall of sound generated by a duo. YES it is the 21st century & these women have embraced it with all the senses.
Yes there is a laptop on stage but it does contain real musicians & as Mettaphor have their own
recording studio the sounds are constantly growing, created inhouse. Think of them like dj's
except Mettaphor use 100% of their own creative grooves with voice & acoustic instruments freestylin over the top.
Hunter & Heinrich maintain a focus on songs with articulate lyrics merged with a sensual kindajazzgroove idiom & they have earn't their stripes playing over 3,000 gigs around the world. Initially they honed their onstage craft on the circuit @ venues, events & festivals in Australia, USA & New Zealand in the acoustic singer/songwriter genre influenced by some the best troubadours of the '90's, though secretly, they desired to morph into a band sounding more like the love child of Angie Stone & Prince or was it......Candy Dulfer & John Coltrane ....Nina Simone & Neville Brothers??
Mettaphor are inspired by the likes of Miles Davis, Dig, St Germain, Steely Dan, Lauryn Hill, Little Feat,
Rita Marley, Soul to Soul & all things groove.........daring their music to take them anywhere & these
women do it all every single note.
Kaeleen Hunter - a wordy woman who sings & caresses custom maton guitars with more fx pedals
than the tourdefrance. As the total tech head behind the sonic sounds of Mettaphor triggering the
band on stage in Ableton Live with an enviable bag of tricks beatz & serious mobile recording rigs
loaded with all the latest groove engines - a force to be reckoned with!
Angelika Heinrich - brings unlimited melodic sensibility to Mettaphor. A unique & inspiring
alto/soprano saxophone player & endorsed by - www.temby.com. Switching from wicked funky sax
solos to jazzy lead vocals with precision that defies! From impro nu jazz to funk soul beats she's
into living with sensitivity, sass & dexterity burning air like few other women.
